Sidewalks on Jl. Sabang or precisely in front of Kopi Tiam Oey Restaurant, which had been used as public space in form of interactive park some time ago, is now had been demolished. Allegedly, the demolition was done by Jakarta Satpol PP personnel. To reveal it, Jakarta Provincial Government will investigate this demolition case of interactive park which was inaugurated by Udar Pristono, Head of Jakarta Transportation Department.

Sylviana Murni as City Secretary Assistant for Government and Apparatus Sector said that her officials still have not received the information about interactive park demolition. “I didn’t know this information. But if true Satpol PP personnel demolished it, we will investigate and check it soon,” she expressed, Thursday (9/22).

Meanwhile, Indonesia ITDP Director, Milatia Kusuma, expressed that on September 16 ago, the whole world were commemorating PARK(ing) Campaign Day which aims to return the functions of sidewalks as public space. “What happened in Jakarta is that public space is used as vehicle parking lot. This year, Jakarta participated in international campaign by changing one of the sidewalks on Jl. Sabang, which was misused as parking lot and changed into a park or public space,” she explained.
