Jakarta plans to develop park-and-ride spaces for commuters

Jakarta administration plans to improve parking at bus terminals and stations in areas bordering with Jakarta's neighboring cities, to encourage commuters to use public transport and reduce traffic on Jakarta roads.

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said the decision to implement the policy was made based on information on the origin of vehicles flooding Jakarta streets, which includes cities in the Greater Jakarta region such as Depok, Tangerang, Bogor and Bekasi.
Vehicle numbers have exceeded the capacity of Jakarta roads and this has resulted in severe traffic conditions during peak hours, Fauzi said.

"The administration will develop park-and-ride spaces in centers of activity that border with Jakarta. This policy has been stipulated in the newly passed 2030 Jakarta spatial plan," Fauzi said Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Among the planned locations for parking spaces is Kalideres and Lebak Bulus, which are next to Tangerang; Pulogebang, which borders with Bekasi; Kampung Rambutan, which is close to Bogor; and Ragunan, which could be used to anticipate an influx of commuters from Depok.
