Just days after the launch of Bus Rapid Transit, a city committee will consider whether Transcona should be next.

An ambitious plan for 1500 Plessis Rd. includes new roads, new recreation, and a new rapid transit stop.

According to a city report, the first step would be extending Kildare Avenue West. Then, the city will be asked to set aside land for the YMCA-YWCA, a rapid transit corridor, and a rapid transit station.

First, the city will have to consider how much it could make from selling the land. It would be on the hook for funding the full cost of the road construction, plus a share of both the YMCA-YWCA recreational facility and the new Public Works Consolidated East Yards with the proceeds of that sale.

The proposal goes before the Property and Development committee on Tuesday.
