The copious amount of traffic accidents involving Metromini has made Jakarta Provincial Government to evaluate the existence of the orange buses. Jakarta Government is planning to offer the operators with fleets revitalization and turning them into feeder for Transjakarta.

Vice Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama said there is no legal entity that encompass Metromini service because most Metromini operators are now individuals.

"We let them operate out of the compassion in our hearts, because to be honest individual operators are not allowed. I ask for Jakarta Transportation Department to rectify the situation so we could intervene and resolve this problem," told Basuki, Friday (7/26).

Basuki admitted that he has met with board of directors who claimed responsibility for Metromini management. "We offered to revitalize their fleets with added passenger capacity," he revealed.

In addition, Basuki promised that he will turn metromini into feeder for Transjakarta.

"Metromini could use Transjakarta bus lane and the tariff will be increased to 5,000. So the passengers could easily transfer to Transjakarta later," he explained.

he added, Jakarta Provincial Government will provide garage, workshop, and back-up driver for the entrepreneurs who have one or two fleets.

“The entrepreneurs just pay monthly cash so metromini owners could survive. This is our hope. Then they could buy new metromini by themselves. We can also involve Kopaja,” he added.
