Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo started the campaign to promote the bicycle to work activity. From November last year, Mr Widodo has been using bicycle from his house to his office on every Friday. This activity has also been joined by cyclists from Bike2Work community, Norwegian and Danish Ambassadors as well as some public figure such as Lord Mandelson from UK and Motorist Jorge Lorenzo on different occasions.

Despite the lack of cycling infrastructure in the city, the number of cyclists in Jakarta has seem to increase, with cycling activity become more popular. Since the creation  of the bike lane on short segment at the south part of Jakarta and along the section of East Flood Canal, the city has yet to show any significant improvement on bicycle infrastructure. It is hoped by many that the campaign to promote the cycling activity shown by Mr Widodo will ultimately moves the city towards investing in more Non Motorized Transport infrastructure

Other than Mr Widodo, Bandung City Mayor Ridwan Kamil has also been using bicycle to work and it is expected that many city leaders will follow the campaign to promote sustainable transportation for Indonesian cities.
