About the Webinar
This webinar will review the administrative and business planning processes for BRT system development as laid out in Volume 4 of the BRT Planning Guide. Walter Hook will discuss key elements for a successful BRT project administration and system management. Attendees will gain insight into typical BRT business plans and emerging best practices and challenges within BRT operational contracting. The webinar will conclude by reviewing a range of practices with respect to involvement of the incumbent industry in a new system.

About the Presenter
Walter Hook | Vice-President and Principal of BRT Planning International, LLC
Dr. Walter Hook, Vice-President and Principal of the firm BRT Planning International, LLC, has 26 years experience in transit planning. Until 2014, Dr. Walter Hookwas the CEO of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), which he led for 21 years.
Dr. Hook holds a PhD from the School of Urban Planning at Columbia University, where he also served as an Adjunct Professor until 1999. While at ITDP, he helped initiate, design, and successfully implement several successful BRT systems, including the Guangzhou BRT, the Ahmedabad BRT, the TransJakarta BRT, Rea Vaya BRT in Johannesburg, MyCiTi BRT in Cape Town, and the pending DART BRT system in Dar es Salaam. He developed The BRT Standard with Annie Weinstock, and is the co-editor of the BRT Planning Guide. More recently, Hook has contracted with the Asian Development Bank to provide capacity building for a sustainable urban transport initiative in Vientiane, Laos and PPP support to the development of a BRT project in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. With over two decades of research experience, focused on practical outcomes, Dr. Hook applies his deep knowledge of BRT infrastructure and service planning to further the field of knowledge related to bus service reliability.
