ITDP Indonesia on World Environment Day 2024: The Role of Sustainable Transportation in Reducing Urban Pollution
ITDP Indonesia was one of the collaborators in the World Environment Day 2024 and Jakarta Berjaga event. Held on June 8 and 9, 2024, at two locations, the event encouraged community integration, collaboration, and collective action toward a better quality of life.
On the first day, ITDP Indonesia and WRI Indonesia occupied one of the JakRace participants’ stopping points (post) at Kota Tua. WRI Indonesia initiated the session by providing an overview of Jakarta’s air quality. Subsequently, ITDP Indonesia introduced the current status of public transportation in the capital. JakRace participants were then challenged to complete a quiz on public transportation routes, such as the MRT and Transjakarta Corridor 1, within 5 minutes before continuing their journey to the next post.
On the second day, ITDP Indonesia did a booth activation with an interactive game titled “A Day as Our Mayor, Building a City Against Congestion and Pollution” at the Southern Parking Lot of Senayan, GBK. The interactive game allowed participants to take on the role of the Mayor to design a city free of congestion and pollution through policy-making strategies that respond to the challenges faced by the city.
The Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, also visited the ITDP Indonesia booth and showed enthusiasm for the board game. Through this activity, participants are expected to be more familiar with urban transportation policies and encourage the city government to implement sustainable urban transportation.
