ITDP Indonesia Introduces Transport Demand Management with the Launch of the Jakarta Sustainable Transportation Map and Guide

ITDP Indonesia, FDTJ, Stravenues, and Transpod, launched the Jakarta Sustainable Transportation Map and Guide at the Dukuh Atas transit area

The Transport for Metropolitan Jakarta (Forum Diskusi Transportasi Jakarta, “FDTJ”), Stravenues, and Transpod launched the Jakarta Sustainable Transportation Map and Guide at the Dukuh Atas transit area on October 27, 2024. This map provides information on routes, fares, and operating hours for the public transportation network in Jabodetabek, including the Transjakarta BRT, KRL Commuter Line, MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek, and KAI Bandara. In addition to the practical information, this map aims to raise public awareness and encourage a shift to public transportation modes by introducing several sustainable transportation initiatives.

In the Jakarta Sustainable Transportation Map and Guide, ITDP Indonesia presents the concept of Transport Demand Management (TDM) through examples of push strategies and fiscal measures, such as Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) and parking tariff management, which have been under discussion and development for nearly a decade. The goal is that, once implemented, the revenue generated can be used to improve public transport services and develop infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. Furthermore, the map showcases successful examples from cities around the world that demonstrate how public acceptance of ERP policies can increase over time.

Gonggomtua Sitanggang, Southeast Asia Director ITDP, stated that in addition to helping the public plan their journeys using public transportation, this map is expected to support the socialization of Transport Demand Management being developed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. “ITDP Indonesia hopes that the launch of this map will aid in the socialization of the Transport Demand Management that is being designed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, which has the potential to increase public transport usage,” he stated.

As part of the launch event, approximately 200 maps were distributed during the Car Free Day in Sudirman-Thamrin and Taman Langsat. At Taman Langsat, FDTJ, ITDP Indonesia, Stravenues, and Transpod held a discussion on sustainable transport for 20 participants from a walking tour organized by Sobat Air Jakarta. The Jakarta Sustainable Transportation Map and Guide will also be available at Transjakarta bus stops, MRT Jakarta stations, LRT Jakarta stations, and LRT Jabodebek stations, and it is also available for download on the official FDTJ website.
