2025 Year End Highlights
With appreciation to our partners and stakeholders, the following highlights reflect ITDP Indonesia’s collaborative efforts to advance sustainable and equitable urban transport throughout 2025.
ITDP Supports Surabaya’s Compact City Electrified Development
In line with the Compact City development policy under the RPJPD (Regional Long-Term Development Plan) 2025–2045 and the RPJMD (Regional Medium-Term Development Plan) 2025–2029, ITDP Indonesia supports the Surabaya City Government in developing a Compact City Electrified plan.
This support is carried out through collaboration with the Surabaya City Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) to develop strategies encompassing public services, public transport provision, and pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Public Transport Study: ITDP and UN Women Conduct Surveys and Site Visits in Six Cities
As part of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in public transport study initiated by the World Bank and funded by SECO through IDSUN2, ITDP Indonesia, in collaboration with UN Women, conducted a series of surveys and site visits in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Medan, Surabaya, and Makassar.
These visits involved dialogues with city governments, civil society organizations, and public transport operators to gather baseline conditions and inputs. Initial findings were further discussed through an online focus group discussion (FGD) in October with representatives from the six cities and national-level stakeholders.
Dissemination of the Clean Mobility in Metropolitan Jakarta Program
Over the past three years, with support from UK PACT, ITDP Indonesia has provided technical assistance and advocacy to advance low-carbon transport development through the Clean Mobility in Metropolitan Jakarta program.
On 24–26 April 2025, the program’s study findings were disseminated through a series of activities, including the Jakarta Urban Mobility Festival; the Handover and Dissemination of the “Green Corridor Development in Semarang City” study; and Building Momentum for Clean Mobility in Metropolitan Jakarta.
Handover and Dissemination of Public Transport Electrification Study Results in Three Cities
ITDP Indonesia, supported by ViriyaENB, conducted the handover and dissemination of the “Reform Strategy and Roadmap for Public Transport Electrification in Pekanbaru, Surabaya, and Surakarta” on 18–19 June 2025.
The series of activities held in Pekanbaru included site visits, a media workshop, and a document handover ceremony, highlighting service reforms, alternative contracting models, and cross-sector collaboration toward greener public transport.
From Store to Door: How Parcels Travel Across Four Southeast Asian Cities
On 10 August 2025, ITDP Indonesia, together with the Clean Mobility Collective Southeast Asia (CMC SEA), hosted the “From Store to Door” event to disseminate a last-mile delivery (LMD) study report prepared by researchers from four Southeast Asian countries. The report examines the pollution impacts of the dominance of two-wheeled vehicles in LMD services, as well as various initiatives to support the transition toward low-emission transport in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
ITDP and Transjakarta Advance Women’s Empowerment for Inclusive and Sustainable Public Transport
ITDP Indonesia and Transjakarta, with support from UNEP and BMZ Germany, are strengthening women’s empowerment in the public transport sector through the Transjakarta (TJ) Academy Batch 2 program.
As part of the program, ITDP supported the development of training modules on Electric Bus Introduction and Gender Equality, developed in collaboration with UN Women. The program officially graduated 13 women participants as Transjakarta bus drivers on 10 November 2025.
ITDP Identifies Issues and Opportunities for Transit-Oriented Development in Semarang and Kendal
From September to December 2025, ITDP Indonesia carried out a series of field activities in Semarang and Kendal, including technical surveys, in-depth interviews, and community workshops, to understand local area conditions and transport systems, and to identify issues and opportunities for transit-oriented development.
These activities were complemented by a focus group discussion (FGD) organised by Techne Praxis and attended by relevant stakeholders to discuss key findings and ensure that community inputs were incorporated into the transit-oriented development planning process.
MOV-E: Collaboration Toward Inclusive, Affordable, and Low-Emission Electric Mobility
On 1 November 2025, ITDP Indonesia, together with ViriyaENB and ENVELOPS Co., Ltd., hosted “MOV-E: Moving Your City the Electric Way” at the ATMAterra Amphitheatre, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Through a series of installations, electric vehicle exhibitions, and talk show sessions, MOV-E served as a cross-sector collaboration platform to promote public understanding and participation in accelerating the transition toward inclusive, affordable, and low-emission electric mobility.
ITDP Indonesia’s Visit to Padang and Batam for the Road-Based Urban Public Transport Electrification Study
On 24–25 November 2025, ITDP Indonesia held meetings with the Padang and Batam Transportation Agencies as part of a study to develop a national regulatory framework and ecosystem for the electrification of road-based urban public transport. These discussions served as a foundation for policy formulation and practical steps to accelerate the adoption of electric buses in both cities.
