Taking a ride on Jakarta’s bus services makes for a surprisingly interesting experience – in a good way.

Whenever I mention my preferred form of transportation, people shake their heads and repeat their concerns about safety and thieves. “You don’t want to ride the Metro Mini; you’ll get your pockets picked.”
Warnings or not, my decision to jump onto the rickety buses bobbing their way across Jakarta came down to a simple financial question. Would I rather get to my destination once by taxi (Rp 40,000) or 20 times by bus (Rp 40,000)? Once I was hooked on the low prices, I quickly noticed something else. These buses weren’t filled with pickpockets staring down the strange foreigner while their accomplices covertly redistributed my financial resources.
They were filled with mothers, daughters, sons and fathers – all of whom only wanted to reach their destinations as quickly and as painlessly as possible. While I may have missed out on the comfort of taxis, riding these buses reaffirmed my faith in humanity.
Using Germany’s trains and buses shaped my transportation expectations. All I needed were the paper map and paper schedule posted at every station. Without having to talk to anybody, I could effortlessly travel hundreds of kilometers using multiple trains and buses – despite never having seen my destination before. My money would float from my pocket to the glass receptacle separating me from the faceless ticket collectors. I was confident in my ability to arrive – on time, without assistance and on my own.
Keempat SPBG itu seharusnya mulai beroperasi pada Juli
Unit Pelaksana (UP) Transjakarta Busway menunggu janji pemerintah pusat yang akan mengoperasikan empat stasiun pengisian bahan bakar gas (SPBG) baru.
Jika SPBG itu berdiri, waktu tunggu bus Transjakarta di setiap halte akan lebih cepat.
“Dijanjikan pemerintah pusat Desember ini sudah bisa difungsikan,” kata kata Direktur UP Transjakarta Busway Muhamad Akbar, kepada Investor Daily, usai memberikan paparan teknis dengan Komisi B DPRD di gedung DPRD DKI Jakarta
Akbar menjelaskan, saat ini ada lima SPBG, berada di kawasan Daan Mogot, Jalan Pemuda, Kampung Rambutan, Pinang Ranti, dan Pancoran.
Kelima SPBG itu harus melayani 551 bus Transjakarta, sebanyak 80 di antaranya bus gandeng.
Sedangkan, keempat SPBG yang dijanjikan pemerintah pusat itu dibangun di walayah Kalideres, Cililitan, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, serta Ancol.
Menurut Akbar, keempat SPBG itu seharusnya mulai beroperasi pada Juli, tapi urung.
Akbar mengatakan, saat ini antrean mengisi bahan bakar gas (BBG) bus Transjakarta membutuhkan waktu sekitar 2 jam lamanya.
”Karena itu kami berharap keempat SPBG tersebut bisa segera dioperasikan agar bisa membantu mempersingkat pengisian BBG bus Transjakarta,” kata Akbar.
WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–August 7 – Emissions from transportation are the fastest growing source of global greenhouse gas emissions, with emissions expected to increase 300 percent by 2050, according to research by the Worldwatch Institute. Today, emissions from transportation contribute to approximately 80 percent of the harmful air pollutants that result in 1.3 million premature deaths annually, according to Michael Replogle and Colin Hughes of the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP). The two authored the fourth chapter, "Moving Toward Sustainable Transport, in Worldwatch's book State of the World 2012: Moving Toward Sustainable Prosperity, published in April.
The largest financial commitment made at the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012 was a pledge by the 8 largest multilateral development banks (MDBs) to commit 500 staff and to dedicate $175 billion for more sustainable transportation in the coming decade. This unprecedented agreement was facilitated by the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT), which brings together 68 MDBs, civil society organizations, UN agencies, and research and industry organizations.
"This action promises to begin countering decades of unsustainable investments in transportation systems, such as building high-capacity motorways," said Michael Renner, Worldwatch Senior Researcher and State of the World 2012 project co-director. "But it will require new resources for civil society groups to be able to ensure independent monitoring of impacts and follow-through by MDBs."
"If transportation investments and management policies foster walking, cycling, use of high quality public transportation, and smart traffic management, growing urbanization can reduce consumption of scarce resources, protect public health, and deliver happier, nicer cities," said Michael Replogle, Managing Director for Policy and Founder of ITDP and State of the World 2012 contributing author. "These unprecedented MDB financial and reporting commitments present an opportunity to leverage large shifts in domestic and private transportation investment and to build capacity for a paradigm shift."
Berbagai upaya terus dilakukan Pemprov DKI Jakarta dalam mewujudkan sistem angkutan massal yang aman dan nyaman bagi warganya. Namun begitu, untuk mewujudkannya tentu tidak semudah membalikkan telapak tangan. Dibutuhkan integrasi jaringan, tidak hanya secara fisik namun juga secara manajerial.
Koordinator Forum Transportasi Perkotaan, yang juga pengamat transportasi dari Universitas Indonesia (UI), Alvinsyah mengungkapkan, saat ini keberadaan bus Transjakarta sudah cukup baik. Meski begitu, ia menilai, masih ada banyak hal yang perlu diperbaiki terkait pelayanan serta sarana dan prasaranannya. Menurutnya, transportasi massal yang ada saat ini masih berjalan sendiri-sendiri tanpa adanya integrasi antar moda transportasi.
"Kalau kita lihat, kereta, angkutan umum, maupun bus Transjakarta, jalan sendiri-sendiri. Oleh karena itu, harus ada dan dibentuk network integration (integrasi jaringan), agar transportasi massal itu dapat dinikmati oleh masyarakat secara nyaman. Misalnya, setelah warga naik kereta bisa langsung melanjutkan perjalanan dengan bus Transjakarta," ujar Alvinsyah, Jumat (3/8).
VIVAnews – Pemerintah meminta pemilik pusat-pusat perbelanjaan seperti mal mendukung penyediaan Stasiun Pengisian Bahan Bakar Gas (SPBG). Permintaan ini demi mendukung kebijakan konversi Bahan Bakar Minyak (BBM) ke Bahan Bakar Gas.
Wakil Menteri Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral, Rudi Rubiandini, mengatakan program SPBG di mal itu guna memastikan ketersediaan BBG bagi masyarakat ketika kebijakan konversi tersebut mulai diterapkan. Di pusat perbelanjaan misalnya, bisa dibangun SPBG Mobile.
"Jadi, selain SPBG reguler, nanti kita juga menyediakan SPBGmobile. Siapapun yang datang ke supermarket bisa mengisi bahan bakar," ujar Rudi di kantor Kementerian Keuangan, Jakarta, Kamis 3 Agustus 2012.
Jakarta – PT Pertamina akan menyediakan infrastruktur untuk program konversi BBM ke gas alam untuk sektor transportasi jalan yang akan mulai digencarkan pada tahun ini.
Vice President Corporate Communication Pertamina, Ali Mundakir mengatakan bahwa berdasarkan Perpres No.64/2012 tentang penyediaan, pendistribusian, dan penetapan harga bahan bakar gas untuk transportasi jalan, pemerintah telah menugaskan Pertamina untuk melakukan penyediaan dan pendistribusian Bahan Bakar Gas berupa CNG (compressed natural gas).
Dengan ketetapan ini, tuturnya, Pertamina, dengan dukungan pemerintah siap menyukseskan program konversi BBM ke BBG untuk transportasi jalan yang akan digencarkan mulai tahun ini.
Investor tidak akan tertarik berinvestasi di sektor hilir gas karena harga murah.
JAKARTA, Jaringnews.com – Mandegnya konversi Bahan Bakar Minyak ke Bahan Bakar Gas telah menciptakan potensi pemborosan yang luar biasa. Setiap hari diperkirakan Rp1,5 triliun terbuang percuma karena pemakaian BBM, bila dibandingkan dengan seandainya sudah terjadi konversi ke BBG. Sebaliknya, Pemerintah bisa menghemat Rp475 triliun setahun apabila konversi ke BBG berjalan.
Hal itu diungkapkan Suparman, konsultan pertambangan Yama Land, dalam sebuah diskusi di gedung DPD RI, Jakarta, hari ini. "Setiap hari Pemerintah membuang anggaran sebesar Rp1,5 triliun untuk membakar BBM," kata dia.
Suparman mengatakan konversi BBM ke BBG tidak akan berhasil sepanjang harga gas domestik masih murah seperti sekarang ini. Menurut dia, investor tidak akan tertarik berinvestasi di sektor hilir gas karena harga murah tersebut.
NEW DELHI: In its desperation to save its ill-conceived and poorly executed BRT project, Delhi government is now shooting the messenger. It has not only questioned the study conducted by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) but also launched a scathing attack on the institute itself.
Falling back on its worn-out argument of a rich-poor divide, it called car owners "arrogant" and accused those who conducted the study of ignoring bus commuters.
But berating car owners will in no way make the public transport system any better – for that governance has to improve — just as launching a tirade against CRRI will not make a dent in the organisation's reputation. CRRI director, Dr S Gangopadhyay, told TOI: "CRRI has been researching on road and transport solutions for decades. If anyone has questions about the methodology used for the study, we will be happy to answer. Our report has used international norms employed in such studies."
