The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta opened two new corridors on Friday, 31 December 2010, the first to open since 2008. The new busways serve North-South and East-West part of Jakarta. The infrastructure for these corridors was completed 2-years ago, but the opening was delayed due to new arrangements with the bidding process.
The two corridors are 28.8 km length for Pinang Ranti-Pluit (Corridor IX) and 19.4km length for Cililitan-Tanjung Priok (Corridor X). 69 single buses and 25 articulated buses are operated in those corridors.
ITDP Indonesia has been involved in preparing a competitive bidding document for selecting the operator and has consulted on bus interior design as well as conducted safety and delay surveys along the corridors. Although there were some problems identified along the routes, the new busways are a welcome addition to the already successful TransJakarta system. ITDP Indonesia has made sure that the government has committed to improving the problems as well as increasing the funds to ensure that more 44 articulated buses will be equipped with Bus Tracking System (BTS) and regulated control room.
